From Rome in March to Prague in July, here are the best places to go for warm weather & cheap prices in 2020


IS the gloomy weather and January blues making you crave a holiday?

Chances are you will be looking for a European city break, now the most popular holiday for Brits, according to Post Office Travel Money.

And with Sterling six per cent stronger than the euro compared to a year ago, you will have £28 more to spend when you exchange £500.

But even with extra cash in your pocket, you will want to avoid freezing temperatures.

Using data from Which? we give our pick of destinations based on average flight prices and weather.

January – Seville

If you want a last minute break this month, try Barcelona or Seville for temperatures up to 13C and low rainfall compared to other European spots. Return flights are typically less than £90, compared to £167 for Dubrovnik or £104 for Paris.

February – Barcelona

Barcelona’s also a very good choice for February with warmer weather — an average of around 15C — and flights often well below £100. In comparison, Seville prices increase up to £128 for this time of year.

March – Rome

Average fares have crept up to more than £100 for most destinations and some are nearer to £200. In Rome, it should be 16C — still chilly but getting into Spring — and return flights are around £128, compared to £164 in sunnier Seville.

April – Dubrovnik

Which? research highlights Dubrovnik and Berlin as “a steal” if you travel in during this month. Although Dubrovnik’s flights come in at a pricey £153, they get much more expensive in later months.

May – Amsterdam

Flights to Amsterdam cost an average of £107 this month. Temperatures in the Dutch city climb to around a comfortable 16C, which is much less biting than in the earlier months of the year, when it averages about 6C.

June – Seville

Amsterdam is again a good pick as average return flights are just £96. But if you are looking for somewhere super-hot try Rome or Seville. Both have seen flight prices drop in June compared to previous months.

July – Prague

Prague is a balmy 24C at this time of year, so not too hot to sightsee. With return flights costing £130, it is pretty cheap compared with other Eurozone countries. Berlin has similar temperatures and is only a tad more pricey.

August – Dublin

Most people will head to the beach, not cities, but, if you want to escape the heat, try Dublin. Return flights are down to £104 on average, cheaper than any continental destinations. Temperatures are around 19C.

September – Budapest

Make a beeline for Hungarian capital Budapest. It is £70 cheaper to fly there in September rather than August school hols, costing on average £118 — yet the weather is much the same for the two months, at up to 21C.

October – Paris

16°C – £108

Paris can be a pleasant 16C in October, while flight prices have cooled to an average £108 — much cheaper than Lisbon and Dubrovnik, which are more than £160 and where best temperatures are on average 18C and 21C.

November – Reykjavik

Fares to Iceland average £91, as opposed to £144 in February. Take some warm clothes, though, because it gets up to just 5C. Portuguese capital Lisbon can get up to around 18C at best, and fares are on average £117.

December – Barcelona

Barcelona is your best bet for a city break which is not freezing, with temperatures up to to about 14C. Plus, there are air fares for about £100. Seville costs £30 more to get to but it can get as warm as 16C.
