Mike Hagerty stars as Mr Treeger on 1997 episode of Friends

Mike Hagerty died after having an adverse reaction to an antibiotic, it has been reported.

The 67-year-old Friends star was recovering from an infection in one of his legs when a doctor sent him to hospital as the actor complained of feeling unwell.

TMZ reported on Sunday that the Seinfeld actor took an antibiotic but this reportedly caused him to suffer a seizure.

This left Mike in a coma which he never recovered from and Bridget Everett of HBO show Somebody Somewhere, which Mike was due to start filming series two, announced his death on Friday, May 6 on social media.

The actor was best known for his recurring role as Mr Treeger on Friends.

The popular US sitcom aired from 1994 to 2004 and Mike was on five episodes of the comedy during that time.

Mr Treeger was the superintendent at Monica Gellar and Rachel Green’s New York City apartment building and he looked to evict the roommates during one particular episode.

Mike starred until the eighth season and shared scenes with all the main characters of the sitcom, played by Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, David Schwimmer and Matthew Perry.

Over his career, Mike played a number of characters in shows including HBO’s Lucky Louie and Somebody Somewhere.

It was his Somebody Somewhere co-star Bridget Everett, who broke the news of Mike’s passing on social media.

She wrote on Instagram : “With great sadness, the family of Michael G. Hagerty announced his death yesterday in Los Angeles.

“A beloved character actor, his love of his hometown of Chicago and his family were the cornerstones of his life.

“Mike, a devoted husband, is survived by his wife Mary Kathryn, his sister Mary Ann Hagerty [and] her wife Kathleen O’Rourke, and their daughter Meg.

“He will be sorely missed.”

Bridget added: “I loved Mike the instant i met him. He was so special. Warm, funny, never met a stranger.

“We are devastated he has passed. Mike was adored by the entire cast and crew of Somebody Somewhere. Our thoughts are with his wife and family.”
