Friends star Matt LeBlanc apologized to red carpet reporter 15 years after ‘being a jerk’ to him with Matthew Perry

TV judge Ross Matthews revealed that Matt LeBlanc apologized to him 15 years after ‘being a jerk’ to him on the red carpet with his Friends co-star Matthew Perry.

The E! host, 40, explained in his new book Name Drop that he was covering the red carpet for NBC’s 75th Anniversary Party for The Tonight Show in 2002 when he ran into the actors.

At the time, the broadcaster was known as ‘Ross the Intern’ on the late night talk show, which was then hosted by Jay Leno.

Recalling the nightmare interview, which took place at the height of Friends frenzy, Ross wrote that as actors Matt, 52, and Matthew, 50, approached him, he shrieked: “It is so good to meet you! I’m Ross!”

To which LeBlanc quipped, “No you’re not, he’s over there” pointing towards his co-star David Schwimmer, who played the character Ross on the popular sitcom.

The TV judge said: “‘Oh yeah, the other Ross,’ I replied, jokingly rolling my eyes. That didn’t go over well.

“Immediately the mood changed. Matthew Perry began staring into the camera blankly as Matt LeBlanc asked, ‘How did you get this gig?'”

Ross explained that he tried to win the actors over by joking, “I slept my way to the top” while Matthew continued to look expressionless down the camera.

The Drag Race star added: “Matt LeBlanc pointed to me, then looked into the camera, and said, ‘Jay, are you kidding? Are you kidding, Jay?'”

“Matthew Perry joined in, addressing the camera and asking, ‘What’s the call here, Jay?'”

Left reeling from the exchange, Ross explained that he finally got his apology from LeBlanc 15 years later when he was covering the SAG Awards.

Ross recalled that LeBlanc came up to him and said: “I don’t know if you even remember this, but years ago you interviewed me on a red carpet and I was really rude to you.

“It’s bugged me ever since and I’ve always wanted to apologize to you. It wasn’t cool of me to do that to you. I’m sorry.”

And while Ross appreciated Matt’s apology, he admitted that he has yet to receive one from Perry.

The report comes after Matthew whipped Friends fans into a frenzy today after cryptically tweeting: “Big news coming…”

It’s given fresh hope that the much loved sitcom’s stars will soon reunite for a special project 16 years after the last episode aired.

One hopeful fan commented: “Please say it’s a Friends Reunion!?!?”

Another wrote: “Chandler bing??? OH MY GOD.”

Last month HBO Max, the station that would air the special, revealed that the project is “still a maybe.”

Chief content officer Kevin Reilly said: “There’s interest all the way around, and yet we can’t seem to quite get that interest all aligned to push the button on it.

“So today, unfortunately, it’s still a maybe,” he added.

Excitement has been building for the special since all six of the main co-stars got onboard with the idea last year.

The original cast; including Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox and Lisa Kudrow, are reportedly be onboard for an “unscripted” project – as are show creators David Crane and Marta Kauffman.

“There’s interest all the way around, and yet we can’t seem to quite get that interest all aligned to push the button on it,” said Reilly.

But just this week David Schwimmer dismissed rumours of a revival for the hit sitcom.

There were hopes it could return after the cast reunited after its 25th anniversary.

But Schwimmer, 53, who played Ross Geller, said: “I just don’t think it’s possible, given everyone’s different career trajectories.

“I think everyone feels the same – why mess with what felt like the right way to end the series? I don’t want to do anything for the money.

“It would have to make sense creatively and nothing I’ve heard so far, presented to us, makes sense.”
