Elmer celebrates his 30th birthday this year, making 90s babies around the world feel pretty old. But now there is a chance to relieve the fun of bygone childhoods – and introduce the character to the new generation – thanks to a special trail of sculptures in London’s Elephant Park. Community-designed, the sculptures form an interactive trail which is now open to the public, running until October. Despite his advancing age, this is the first time Elmer has been located in London so of course he had to make his debut in Elephant & Castle.
The trail comprises ten specially-commissioned Elmer sculptures, all designed by local community groups and artists.
Free to follow, adults and children alike can solve anagrams along the way.
Those who manage to solve every anagram can enter their answers in to the Elephant Park website for a chance to win a special Elmer prize pack.
After the trail ends in October, the Elmer sculptures will be auctioned off and all proceeds from the sales will be used to support local community causes.
There are 27 Elmer books in print today, with a new title, Elmer’s Birthday, due for release in September.
Speaking about Elmer’s journey to London, creator David McKee said: “It has been fantastic to see Elmer go off on his own adventures over the past 30 years, but never has he appeared in his namesake, Elephant Park.
“I can’t wait to see generations of Londoners coming together in Elephant Park to see these colourful, inspiring, brilliant sculptures based on Elmer.”
