Garena’s Free Fire developer 111dots Studio announced in a release today that the mobile battle royale title will see four major tournaments in 2020 with a combined prize pool of $2M USD.

There will be four tournaments in 2020 with stops confirmed in Indonesia and Brazil, and two more that have yet to be announced.

The Free Fire Champions Cup 2020 will take place in Jakarta, Indonesia, on April 19 with qualifiers for the event already started. Brazil will be the home of the Free Fire World Series which takes place in November 2020.

Garena, the Singapore-based games company, recently acquired Phoenix Labs, the studio behind the action role-playing game Dauntless, which is looking to establish itself and grab market share in the mobile gaming space.

While most of the headlines surrounding mobile battle royale titles have been focused on PUBG MOBILE, Garena’s entry into the genre quietly had a strong 2019 and doesn’t look to be slowing down. According to Esports Earnings, the game awarded nearly $400K in prize money in 2019 – virtually all of it coming from a single event, the Free Fire World Series. YouTube’s annual YouTube Rewind reported that Free Fire was the fourth most-watched video game on the platform.
