Japan legend Keisuke Honda has urged Manchester United to make him a contract offer after leaving Melbourne Victory during the summer.

Honda, 33, is a free agent on the hunt for a new club and contacted United through social media in the hope he might catch Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s attention.

He said: ‘Give me an offer. I don’t need money but I need to play with great team and great team mate.’

United are in the midst of an injury crisis up front and could do with more forward options.

Strikers Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford are currently unavailable for selection due to injury, leaving teenager Mason Greenwood as the only fit centre-forward in Solskjaer’s squad.

United offloaded Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez during the summer, but failed to replace either player.

Honda is a right winger, but is a versatile forward and scored eight goals for Melbourne last season.

The attacker has never played in the Premier League, producing his best years at CSKA Moscow and AC Milan.
