Freddie Mercury: Can YOU match Queen star’s voice on singing challenge FreddieMeter?

Freddie Mercury had some of the most iconic pipes of all time. And now Queen and YouTube Music are challenging fans to mimic his vocals. The Google built AI-powered singing challenge known as the FreddieMeter rates just how close you can get to mimicking it.

Created in support of the Mercury Phoenix Trust, a charity founded by Brian May, Roger Taylor and Jim Beach in the fight against HIV/AIDs, the FreddieMeter analyses your pitch, timbre and melody in comparison to Freddie’s, awarding each player a score out of 100.

On the FreddieMeter microsite, fans can select between Bohemian Rhapsody, Don’t Stop Me Now, Somebody to Love and We Are The Champions to sing from.

After this, you get your score and can download a custom scorecard that can be shared on social media.

The Mercury Phoenix Trust then recommend challenging three friends to the FreddieMeter with the hashtag #FreddieChallenge, while encouraging a donation to the charity.

Freestone added: “But, when you see Freddie stand up in that scene, that was exactly the look, the attitude, and the words were exactly what I knew of Freddie Mercury.

“That could have been Freddie. When we were filming it, I could feel a lump in my throat. And when I watched the film, I had tears coming down me.

“Also the part – which again, didn’t happen like it did in the film – when Freddie tells the band he has AIDS. I cried at that as well.”

Last month, Roger Taylor slammed the “sneering critics” of Bohemian Rhapsody.

Speaking with Planet Rock, Taylor said: “There was kind of a mood of… an expectation of disaster. We’re a funny old country, aren’t we?

“The trouble with us is, we’re too f***ing popular, and a lot of the media just hate that.

“There were some decent reviews but there were many that were kinda sneering and superficial.

“I thought, ‘You just don’t get it, do you? You weren’t moved, and whatever, but f*** you actually. F*** you all the way to the bank, actually.’”
