Parents up and down the country have taken to Twitter to complain about the annual event, which requires children to go to school in costume
THOUSANDS of schoolchildren up and down the country will be celebrating World Book Day in style dressed as the characters from their favourite stories.
However, while it might be all fun and frolics for the kids, it’s the mums and dads who have to produce the killer costumes – and it’s safe to say that they have been left somewhat frazzled.
Long-suffering parents have taken to Twitter to lament the occasion with many admitting that they ‘HATE’ World Book Day.
In several cases demanding youngsters have left their parents at their wits end with their highly complicated costumes.
User Don Kempton tweeted: “I do detest #WorldBookDay it causes so much stress in the house, the books my daughter reads needs an actual costume designer to make. No chance for some one that can just about sow a button (sic).”
In Kerry Smith’s case, she was expected to produce not one, not two but three costumes for the occasion – and all for the same child.
She wrote: “The oldest had 3 costume changes this morning. 1st due to not being able to find the book her character was in. 2nd because she decided the character was too obscure. Settled on no 3 cus she saw I was about to throw myself from a window. (sic)”
Cathie Boyle appeared equally jaded, tweeting: “Did the inventors of World Book Day actually hate their parents and this was their way of revenge?”
Joanne Jackson complained of the “pressure” and cost it puts on parents, tweeting: “Cant believe the horroe of world book day is now finally over for me. F***ing hate this day and the pressure and cost it puts on families.(sic)”
Meanwhile Tyrone Campbell –Twells admitted that he had resorted to last year’s Halloween costume when it came to his child’s costume.
He tweeted: “We only figured out yesterday that my two year old’s nursery is doing this today. ‘Quick get that spider costume from Halloween!’ .. ‘Which book is it meant to be?’ … ‘I don’t know, anything with a spider in it’ (sic)”
However, among the thoroughly fed-up parents were a select few who admitted they actually enjoyed World Book Day.
Mum Scarlett wrote: “I blinkin love world book day and I don’t care what anyone else says (sic).”
And another enthusiast added: “I love #WorldBookDay! Kids all dressed up as book characters. It’s so darn cute, and twitter is covered in book pics and reading quotes. It’s brill.”
