Frank Lampard sends warning to Chelsea players who might be unsettled by Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner signings

Frank Lampard insists none of his players should have any issue with the signings of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.

The Chelsea boss has made two major additions to his forward line and questions have been asked about how Werner and Ziyech might fit into Lampard’s team.

In particular, it has been suggested Tammy Abraham’s place may be under threat from Werner, who scored 35 goals for RB Leipzig this season.

Lampard was quizzed about the prospect of some of his players being unnerved by the decision to bring in Werner and Ziyech – who cost a combined £80million in transfer fees.

He said: ‘If players come in, that should be the nature of the beast playing for Chelsea. It shouldn’t be a problem for anyone.’

Ziyech has already begun training at Cobham, while Werner has been given some time off having just finished his season with RB Leipzig.

Lampard is planning to push ahead with his squad overhaul and is prioritising adding a left-back, as well as another defender.

Ben Chilwell is Lampard’s top choice, but Leicester City are unlikely to budge on their massive £80m asking price.

Lampard is also targeting Declan Rice and is eager to convert the West Ham midfielder into a centre-back.

Chelsea, however, have a crucial few weeks ahead as they push to secure a Champions League place.

The Londoners are third in the Premier League table, but just a point ahead of Leicester City and Manchester United.

Ahead of Chelsea’s game against Norwich, Lampard was asked how his transfer plans might affected if his side fails to make top four.

‘Not really a question just for me and it is a hypothetical one for me to answer before the event, hence why I don’t jump forward into that,’ he replied.

‘We have brought a couple of players into the club already, which shows positivity about where we want to go.

‘We know the club not being able to do business in the last two windows has meant we haven’t been able to bring in, move players out and I think that is as an important thing than bringing players in at times, to keep freshening up the squad and keeping the competitive nature of it.

‘I know where I want to go with the squad, but that has to be a fluid conversation with the club.

‘Of course, economics will come into it, so we will cross that bridge when it comes.’
