Chelsea boss Frank Lampard says there’s ‘more to come’ from N’Golo Kante following his man of the match performance against Liverpool in the Super Cup.

The Frenchman was unable to start Sunday’s defeat against Manchester United and he was sorely missed by the Blues, who were thumped 4-0 at Old Trafford.

However, Kante managed 120 minutes in Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool in the Super Cup and he was named man of the match after their 5-4 defeat in the penalty shootout.

Kante is now expected to be reinstated to Sunday’s side to face Leicester City at Stamford Bridge and Lampard has hailed the Frenchman for his impact on the team.

‘Well, he’s an amazing player. Amazing character, he just comes to play, he’s humble in his life but when he gets on the football pitch he’s a machine,’ said Lampard.

‘Of course he’s going to be hugely important. And this is a player that hasn’t trained much, had a swollen ankle two days ago when we played on Sunday evening and he’s wanted to play today and managed to cover 120 minutes and I think you saw what he brings to the team today.

‘And there will be more because as I say he hasn’t trained much. But I’m delighted to work with him, I respect him so much as a player, and now it’s really nice to work with him and he’ll be big for us.’

Chelsea converted all four of their penalties before sudden death but Tammy Abraham’s miss gifted Liverpool the trophy.

The 21-year-old was subsequently racially abused on social media by a minority of supporters and Chelsea were quick to condemn the ‘abhorrent’ abuse.

‘We are disgusted with the abhorrent posts we have seen on social media,’ said a club spokesman.

‘Chelsea FC finds all forms of discriminatory behaviour unacceptable. It has no place at this club and where there is clear evidence of Chelsea season ticket holders or members involved in such behaviour, we will take the strongest possible action against them.’
