Frank Lampard was impressed by Callum Hudson-Odoi’s performance in Chelsea’s 6-0 thrashing of Barnsley in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

Hudson-Odoi played the full 90 minutes against the Championship side and Lampard felt he looked ‘sharp’ even though he didn’t score or assist any of Chelsea’s six goals.

Kai Havertz was the man to take most of the plaudits.

The Germany international scored three times, with Tammy Abraham, Ross Barkley and Olivier Giroud completing the rout for Lampard and co..

Hudson-Odoi’s future has been a source of plenty of speculation in recent weeks as he continues to struggle to force his way into the first team at Stamford Bridge.

The England international has been linked with a loan move to European champions Bayern Munich and Lampard refused to rule out the possibility of him leaving the club before the transfer window closed prior to Chelsea’s win over Barnsley.

But despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Lampard was impressed with the 19-year-old’s display and thinks he set a standard that he needs to replicate in the future.

‘I think he did well,’ said Lampard. ‘Not easy with not so many minutes, he is the same as some others in the same boat at the moment.

‘I thought at parts he looked fresh and sharp. We talk about work ethic, which he showed really well in terms of getting the ball back for us, recovery runs, all the things which must be absolutely standard in his game.

‘If you look at the top wingers in the Premier League and how they play. He showed loads of great moments.

‘I was really pleased with Callum, I thought he had a good night.’
