Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben break down in tears ahead of final Bayern Munich game


Legendary wingers Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben id an emotional farewell to Bayern Munich on Saturday.

The legendary duo will depart the Bundesliga giants at the end of the season after a glittering decade together on either wing.

Both had to settle for a spot on the bench for their clash with Eintracht Frankfurt as they looked to wrap up the Bundesliga title.

But it didn’t stop it from being an emotional occasion as both players were paraded before fans and broke down in tears ahead of the game.

Footage of Robben’s winning goal in the 2013 Champions League final sparked an emotional reaction as he embraced Ribery.

The Frenchman then also broke down in tears as he pair embraced with a backdrop from the Bayern fans reading “goodbye and thanks”.


The pair were the centre of a presentation from CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and president Uli Hoeness before the game, along with Rafinha, who is also set for a summer departure.

The fitting send off inspired Bayern to a dream start of their title decider as Kingsley Coman fired them into an early lead after just four minutes.

The Bavarian side needed just a point to secure their sixth straight Bundesliga crown and send both Ribery and Robben off in style.

Speaking ahead of the game to Bundesliga.com , Robben said: “I’ve said many times that I’m simply proud to be a part of this club and to have been a part of everything!

“When I first came to the club in 2009, we, as a club were not as far along as we are now, and I don’t only mean on the pitch but also off it.

“The development the club has achieved is simply incredible! The chance to have been able to witness this makes me very proud.”

The pair were presented with gifts, along with Rafinha, who is also leaving

Ribery, meanwhile told the Bundesliga website about his pride at what the pair have achieved during the last decade at Bayern.

The French star said: “There was a completely different style of play at Bayern before. They were still a great club with big names.

Ribery has spent 12 years with the German giants and was also emotional

“When Arjen, myself and others arrived at the club, we brought more pace and dynamism; a different type of football. Of course, we’re proud of what we’ve achieved. We shouldn’t forget that when I first arrived in 2007, Bayern were 4th or 5th (in the league).

“After I arrived, we were not in the Champions League. The next season, we achieved something as a team. That was nice. After 12 years, it’s amazing (what we have achieved).”
