Fox personality invokes Mario Kart to dismiss claim video games lead to violence – Washington Examiner

Fox News personality Kat Timpf invoked the video game Mario Kart to dismiss the claim that video games lead to violence on Friday’s edition of Outnumbered.

The panel, which featured Timpf, Jessica Tarlov, Rachel Campos-Duffy, Melissa Francis, and Tom Homan, was discussing the president’s recent remarks in which he reaffirmed his belief that there is “an appetite for background checks” and the likelihood it actually results in new gun legislation.

“There’s absolutely no way — and I’m a parent — that the desensitization through video games is not — does not impact this,” Campos-Duffy began. “All of it as part of it. We have to look at it comprehensively. So long as Democrats are wholly just focused on guns, they’re not going to gain the trust of Republicans who, by the way, the conservatives are even more worried about joining up with, even though your poll was right, they said we need to do something about background checks, maybe even guns.”

She concluded her thought saying, “You can’t deny the video games,” while Tarlov immediately rebutted her point claiming that “studies have denied it.”

Campos-Duffy retorted, “Studies by the gaming industry. Come on, Jessica. If you’ve have kids and you’ve seen kids in front of video games, you understand that there can be a desensitization.”

“I played Mario Kart a lot as a child, and it’s hard for me to go to work because I’m so busy throwing banana peels all over the streets,” Timpf interjected.

“You may not have a mental issue. You may not have had a traumatic childhood experience that makes you susceptible to that. We have to be comprehensive about this,” Campos-Duffy concluded.
