Four players Man Utd could sign in summer transfer window

Manchester United are slowly rebuilding their squad with marquee signings Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes having joined the club since the end of the 2018/2019 season.

Although expensive, both players look like a good fit for the club but it’s only just the beginning for a side that still needs major investment.

This season has been mixed so far but when the team does perform there is a lot to be hopeful about, with Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood, Fred and Maguire all impressing.

To fix inconsistencies, United will need to spend heavily again in the summer and below are some of their options.

Kalidou Koulibaly

Kalidou Koulibaly has long been linked with the exit.

Kalidou Koulibaly has been linked with a move to the Premier League for a number of years, but with problems at Napoli this season his time at the club might actually be coming to an end.

The Senegal international will be 29 in the summer but is still a commanding centre-back and has been a regular in a very good Napoli side over the years.

He would be an improvement on all of their current defenders and would form a fearsome partnership with Maguire.

United’s transfer model of signing young British talent goes against singing Koulibaly but he has the talent to convince them.

James Maddison

United are very interested in James Maddison,

After his impressive form for Leicester in the last couple of seasons since his switch from Norwich, James Maddison has been linked with a number of English clubs.

Now a fully fledged England international, Maddison registered seven goals and seven assists last season and already has six goals and three assists in the Premier League this term.

At 23 there is room for plenty of improvement, but with Maddison United would be getting a creative spark with a penchant for the sublime.

Signing Bruno Fernandes in January doesn’t impact United’s desire to capture Maddison, who very much remains a priority target.

Jadon Sancho

Manchester United have been long-term admirers of Jadon Sancho.

Jadon Sancho doesn’t turn 20 until March, but the London born attacker is already one of the biggest names in German football.

Last week Sancho became the first teenager to score 25 goals in the Bundesliga and is set for a starring role for England at the Euros this summer.

A move for Sancho would be expensive but also controversial, as the 19-year-old left Manchester City to join Borussia Dortmund a couple of years ago.

Sancho would be a great get for United, but if they don’t qualify for the Champions League will there be enough incentive?

Erling Haaland

Erling Haaland is lighting up Europe.

Erling Haaland moved to Borussia Dortmund in January, but after a blistering start with seven goals in his first three games, the German team might be inclined to cash in.

Bought for what is already a bargain €22.5 million, Dortmund could likely triple that number if they sell the Norwegian international in the summer.

There is a dearth of decent strikers available and United might be tempted to splurge on a player who scored 16 goals in 14 games for RB Salzburg prior to his move to Dortmund.

With Greenwood coming through and Martial and Rashford improving every year, the board may feel that spending big on a striker is not what’s needed right now.
