FOUR women ministers face the sack in the post-Brexit reshuffle – but the PM is short of candidates to replace them.
It gives Boris Johnson a massive headache as he tries to keep a gender balance within his top team.
Those who could lose their jobs include Business Secretary Andrea Leadsom, Trade supremo Liz Truss, Environment Secretary Theresa Villiers and Work and Pensions Secretary Therese Coffey.
There are only seven women in the 23-strong Cabinet and one official admitted: “It won’t look good.
“He’s got his sights on a number of senior females but there are very few who can replace them. One option would be to promote a lot of women into junior ministerial ranks.
“But that won’t solve his women problem at Cabinet level.”
During last month’s election campaign, Mr Johnson vowed to support women to “reach their full potential” if he won.
A source said: “He’s ready to wield the axe but we’ll have to wait and see if he has the nerve to take out so many women at one strike.”
