Fortnite update 10.40.1 patch notes: DOWNTIME news, Season 10 end event, map changes

Fortnite fans are counting down to the release of update 10.40.1.

Epic has announced plans to release update 10.40.1 on October 2 at 9am UK time. The update will be accompanied by server downtime.

The news was announced by Epic Games on Twitter, alongside plans to post full patch notes once the server maintenance ends.

“Hi there!” reads a Fortnite tweet. “Patch v10.40.1 arrives tomorrow.

“Downtime will begin at 4 AM ET (0800 UTC), and the Patch Notes will be available when downtime ends.”

There’s no word on when the server maintenance will end, but expect the game to come back online at around 10.30am BST.

Despite not hinting at any new weapons, items or map changes, Epic has told Nintendo Switch fans to expect a larger than usual update.

There’s a strong possibility update 10.40.1 will lay the foundations for the Season 10 end event, which is expected to take place very soon.

There are plenty of rumours that the Fortnite season 10 live event could spark big changes in Battle Royale.

It’s rumoured that the Fortnite season 10 event – which leaks have suggested will be called The End – will lead to the launch of a brand new Battle Royale map.

Recent teasers and in-game activity points towards a possible rocket launch that will destroy the map as players watch.

Fortnite leaker ShiinaBR tweeted: “EVENT LEAK: During the event, the players will be sucked into the Zero Point & will be unable to move (similar to the Butterfly event).

“After being sucked into the Zero Point an currently encrypted Map will be loaded and used for the cinematic.”

According to the early patch notes, the new update will also make a number of bug fixes.

Epic has confirmed that issues with The Combine will be fixed in the next release.

Some players, for example, have experienced difficulty queuing for The Combine.

“We’re aware that some players are having difficulty queuing into The Combine,” Epic explains.

“We are working to resolve this issue. Until we do, players on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC can mitigate it by having Save the World installed.

“The issue is not currently present on Nintendo Switch.”

Performance hitching problems will also be fixed as part of update 10.40.1.

Check back on October 2 for the full list of Fortnite patch notes.
