Fortnite fans demand they bring back the siphon feature

Fans of Fortnite have started trending #BringSiphonBack on Twitter, in the hopes of seeing a return for the siphon mechanic.

The hashtag has started to acquire major attention on Twitter and is continuing to climb, with fans doing their best to make Epic Games take notice.

Siphon is a mechanic that was added to Fortnite at the start of this year to all game modes for only a limited time. Siphon is essential life steal, so when you eliminate someone in the game you can get a combination of up to 50 life and shield back.

However, this drastically changed the pace of the game, as players were far more aggressive than in normal modes of play. This was also an added boon to pro players of Fortnite, which is why Epic removed the feature from casual mode and only left it in for competitive Arena modes.

When siphon got removed there was negative feedback, but it seemed to die down back in April. Now it seems the demands are back in full force for siphon’s return, started by a tweet from a FaZe Clan member – with other pro players getting involved as well.

Epic Games have argued that siphon increased engagement for skilled players by a small margin but massively increased the frustration for casual players, up to the point where they would stop playing.

The outcry is similar to #RemovetheMech, which began when fans decided they didn’t like the addition of the B.R.U.T.E mech that was added into Season X of Fortnite.

Epic Games did finally respond to #RemovetheMech but not in the way fans would have hoped. Epic refused to back down, and all they did was tweak the spawn rates a little. To certain fans this was not good enough and the trend continued until Epic Games finally relented and agreed to tweak the stats of the mech.

It is unclear how Epic will respond to this current fan outcry, but in relation to their previous responses, they tend to favour the majority of players, not just a select few.
