Fortnite: Epic Games partner up with YouTube for Exclusive Cosmetics!

Epic Games have announced an exclusive partnership with video service platform YouTube. The partnership will entice fans to watch Fortnite’s YouTube content or when they go live for events such as the Fortnite World Cup next week.

Essentially, this is identical to the way CS:GO and Valve do their “in-game drops” during Major events, during these major’s fans can watch on the CS:GO in the game client and have the chance to earn exclusive cases or cosmetic items by simply watching. 

The Fortnite Team said:

“We’re teaming up with YouTube to level up your live viewing experience in Fortnite special and competitive live broadcasts. A new and exciting feature debuts today for Fortnite fans: Drops!

“Starting today, you’ll receive special Fortnite cosmetics when you link your YouTube and Epic Games account and watch Fortnite premiered content on YouTube. Link your account and tune into the premiere of Game Jam Hollywood for our first YouTube Drop and claim your reward.”

Once players have linked their YouTube accounts to their Epic Games accounts they will instantly be able to access these awards as early as next week when the first batch roll out. Epic also revealed a new set of unique game modes coming during the Fortnite World Cup titled “Game Jam Hollywood”, the full trailer can be viewed here, but Epic described it as;

“Game Jam Hollywood tells the story of a secret Fortnite event in Hollywood, California. Sixteen of the best Creative community builders came together and combined their powers to create brand new Creative games for the Fortnite World Cup Finals.”

What are the drops? 

Next week there will four opportunities for players to unlock these once in a lifetime in-game cosmetics. 

The events are: 

  • 7/25 – Game Jam Hollywood premiere.
  • 7/26 – Fortnite World Cup Finals Day 1 live broadcast.
  • 7/27 – Fortnite World Cup Finals Day 2 live broadcast.
  • 7/28 – Fortnite World Cup Finals Day 3 live broadcast.

Epic Games also pictured the three out of the four rewards player’s can earn, from a Fortnite World Cup spray to a unique YouTube Red weapon wrap these are all very cool and player’s should be excited about this partnership and what the future holds for it!

How to link your YouTube and Epic Games accounts

Anyone can become eligible for the YouTube drops by linking their account to their Epic Games account

  1. Sign in to YouTube in a desktop browser 
  2. Go to Accounts and select Settings
  3. Under the “Connected accounts” section, select your Epic Games account.
    1. If you do not already have an Epic games account, create one then start at Step 2
  4. Click or tap CONNECT
  5. Sign into your Epic Games account

You can also link your Epic Games account from the Watch page of any eligible Fortnite live stream. Click or tap REWARDS in the description, and follow the prompts to your Epic Games account.
