Former TOWIE star Kirk Norcross 'happier' unblocking drains than being on ITV show

Kirk Norcross shot to fame on the hit ITVBe show The Only Way Is Essex back in 2010 and one of the county’s famous heartthrobs.

But, the 31-year-old stepped away from his famous lifestyle and can now be found up a ladder, unblocking drains for Essex residents who require his services.

The dad-of-two revealed that the “toxic” side of reality TV helped him make the decision that saw him give up buying luxury cars and living a wild lifestyle.

Opening up about his past, he revealed: “Reality TV turned me into a monster but the bosses didn’t want to look after the monster they created.”

Speaking to The Sun, Kirk went on to reveal that he attempted to take his own life just two years ago following “dark times” but is glad he is alive now as he can live as the person he wants to be.

TOWIE bosses are allegedly attempting to persuade Kirk and other original cast members to sign on the dotted line for a tenth-anniversary show.

Speaking about his new career: “I realise working up a ladder clearing drains and jet-washing driveways isn’t as glamorous as being on the telly.

He now runs a successful drain unblocking company

“But I wouldn’t swap things for the world. I am so glad. I am away from that life now. When I was on TOWIE I was known everywhere I went.

“I used to buy Ferraris, expensive watches and designer jeans – now I’m happy with a £20 pair from Topman.”

Kirk went on to claim that there is “so much bulls**t going on” when you live your life in the eye of the media, adding it can be toxic and you’re often surrounded by “fake people”.

Kirk revealed the “toxic” side to fame made him come away from social media

Despite appearing as though he was living his best life in front of the reality cameras, he said: “Now I get up, go to work, keep my head down and earn a living with a bigger smile on my face.”

Social media has recently come under fire following the death of television presenter Caroline Flack, who tragically took her own life on February 15th.

Opening up about his experience with social media, Kirk added: “I’ve come off Twitter entirely. It is just full of nastiness and people who want to have a pop at you.

The former reality star claims he wakes up happier each day

“It’s particularly hard for those young people who go on reality TV shows and are on the way down in terms of their level of fame.”

He continued: “People on Twitter can be so cruel. They say stuff they’d never dream of saying to your face. Everyone says ‘don’t read what trolls write’ but that is easier said than done and if you haven’t got a thick skin it can be very difficult to cope with.

“What has happened to Caroline Flack is obviously an absolute tragedy but if there is one good thing that has come out of all it is that hopefully, people will be a bit kinder to one another on social media.”

The dad-of-two claimed that show bosses didn’t take care of the “monster” that was created

When asked about his attempt on his life, the star revealed: “I’ve had some dark, dark times. On one occasion I wanted to end it all. I took a load of sleeping pills and just wanted to drift away but it didn’t work.

“I am so glad I didn’t. I am so happy I am alive because I have a chance now to be the person I want to be and, if I can, to make a bit of difference.”

The star also claimed that he “loves” getting a paycheque after finishing a job and added that there is no better feeling.
