Former Tennent's boss to chair board of executive headhunter MM Search

Executive recruitment firm MM Search has appointed former Tennent’s managing director Mike Lees as its non-executive chairman.

Lees brings decades of business development, mentoring and strategic expertise to the board of the Glasgow-based firm which has ambitious expansion plans. During his time with the brewer, he oversaw the creation of the Tennent’s pub academy to promote excellence in the hospitality industry and a shirt sponsorship deal with both Celtic and Rangers.

Joint managing partner Derek MacFeate said: “We are honoured to have secured a business great like Mike Lees as our non-exec chairman. Mike’s knowledge and business nous is second to none. As both former MD of Tennent’s and latterly as an entrepreneur and advisor to businesses with growth potential, we know Mike will be part of our ambitious development plans for 2020.”

Lees’ appointment follows a year of significant hires for MM Search, which specialises in boardroom level and C-suite appointments. Last year, it added business delivery manager Kirsteen Reilly, who joined from Trtl with a background in intellectual property and project management, and marketing insights manager Jen Gillan, who previously worked for Primesight and JC Decaux.

It also appointed financial services boss and Glasgow Distillery co-founder Ian MacDougall as a non-executive director and former Page Group senior partner MacFeate joined as joint managing partner in November. MM Search also announced a partnership with Scotland rugby hero turned executive coach Tony Stanger of Stanger Pro.

Ken Morrice, founding managing partner, said: “Expanding our team after a successful first year is good news for us and our clients who will benefit from our new appointments’ wealth of experience that will ensure that we stay ahead of the curve when it comes to securing the right talent for our clients.”
