Former Man City boss admits he is a ‘Liverpool fan’ and wants Reds to win Premier League

Former Manchester City manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has declared he has “always” been a Liverpool fan and wants the Reds to win the Premier League this season.

Eriksson managed City for one season, the 2007/08 campaign, leading the Sky Blues to a ninth-placed finish in the English top division.

So many would expect the Swede to be hoping his former side win a third successive title this term.

However, it is anything but as he is desperate to see Liverpool end their 30-year wait for a top-flight title.

The Reds are currently eight points clear at the top of second-placed Leicester City.

“It will [be the season Liverpool win the league], for sure,” Eriksson told Sky Sports News.

“I’m a Liverpool fan, always been, all my life. Nobody knows [this].

“[Jurgen Klopp is doing] excellent, playing good football, good spirit, always coming back even if they are down.

“So I’m quite sure this is the year Liverpool will win the Premier League. It’s time.”

Liverpool finished one point behind eventual champions Manchester City last season in one of the closest title races in recent memory.

But ex-England manager Eriksson says Klopp’s side are more mature now and have proven they can come back from losing positions.

“They played very well last season, of course they won the Champions League,” he added.

“But they seems to be even more mature, they believe in what they’re doing, they believe that they are the best, even if they are under, which has happened sometimes, they’ve come back and they trust what they’re doing and just go on and we’ll win this time.

“You can never be sure [about the title] but I really hope so. I’m sure with my heart.”

Liverpool are back in Premier League action on Saturday when they visit Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
