Daniel Herz, former vice president and chief revenue officer at Complexity Gaming, has joined Mission Control, a business-to-business SaaS (software as a service) platform looking to facilitate tournaments for both competitive and casual game players. The platform is looking to partner with the intramural departments of educational institutions and municipal recreation programs.

“Mission Control is recreation esports. It’s not built for the 1% that are super competitive, but for the larger demographics who want to be social, who want to play games and have some sense of structure to it.” Herz told The Esports Observer. “We’re looking to rally and for people to gather friends in creating communities.”

The Mission Control beta was launched this past fall and the company saw over 50 clients sign up to use the platform. The intramural program at Duke University, The Boys and Girls Club, and the City of Dallas Parks and Recreation Department have all used the platform.

Herz tells The Esports Reporter that he left Complexity because he felt there was a larger opportunity at the infrastructure level to provide this type of service to the majority of gamers. He has a vision of friends coming together, in-person or virtually, through the platform to play the games they enjoy.

The platform has been built specifically for leagues and not tournament play so that the scheduling of matches remains flexible. Herz and the creators behind Mission Control are committed to the social aspect of the product.

The move to Mission Control makes sense for Herz because of his background as a former intramural supervisor at Colorado College.

“I had a lot of friends who all went to college together and now we’re scattered around the country,” Herz said. “But we still get on, we play games together.  It’s really about that social structure.”

Mission Control’s supported titles include Rocket League, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and a majority of sports simulations. Leagues can have cash or prize awards as well as premium prizes.
