Organisers are even throwing in free booze and chocolate to boost sales. An industry source said: “Since leaving Corrie a year ago, Shayne has been able to return to singing.
“A bingo hall might not sound too swanky, but he’s thrilled to get the chance to be back on stage.” Shayne, 34, has signed up to play at Grimsby’s Buzz Bingo, on June 15.
The night is being advertised on social media with an ad that says: “Pre-book a seat to get a great view of the stage – £5 per person – minimum of 4 people per table to include bubbly and chocolate.
“The front rows are selling VERY fast, don’t miss out!” Buzz Bingo chiefs are said to be “very happy” with ticket sales and plan to offer Shayne more gigs.
A source said: “Shayne has a large fan base, so it’s no surprise there’s been a lot of interest.”
Shayne is also lined up to play at budget hotel chain Parkdean Resorts. The 2005 X Factor winner has seven dates at locations including Southview and Cayton.
Just a year ago, Shayne was one of TV’s most talked about stars as Coronation Street’s Aidan Connor. He wowed viewers with a heartbreaking suicide plot.
After leaving the soap he declared he wanted to star on dramas such as Marcella and Peaky Blinders. He said: “Any role is challenging, whether it’s lighter or darker material. I’ll go wherever I need to go.
“So I’m putting it out there to the universe – I’d love to be in Peaky Blinders. It would be amazing to do a big drama.”
Shayne has tried out for a string of roles but so far failed to land a prime-time show. Our insider said: “Shayne’s a talented actor – he proved that with his gritty exit storyline on Corrie.
“But the acting world is tough once you haven’t got the backing of a big show. So in the meantime, he’s focusing on performing because he knows he can earn a living that way.”
Shayne is rumoured to be a target for an all-star version of X Factor due to air later this year.
