Former City boss joins engineering group's board

Nigel Mills, the former chief executive at City broker Hoare Govett, has been named as the new senior independent director at John Wood Group.

Mills, who led the broker between 1995 and 2005, is currently senior independent director at housebuilder Persimmon and a senior adviser at Citigroup Global Markets, although he will leave that role at the end of the month.

He has also previously been chairman of corporate broking at Citi between 2005-2015

Mills will replace Jeremy Wilson who will resign as Wood’s senior independent director at its upcoming AGM after nine years.

Chairman Roy Franklin said Mills’ “extensive financial, commercial and investor relations experience in advising some of the UK’s largest companies across a broad range of end markets will strengthen the board”.

Franklin added: “I would like to personally thank Jeremy for his dedication to Wood over the past nine years. His support to the board and particularly his knowledge of capital markets has been invaluable, helping to guide Wood through a period of significant development.”

Hoare Govett was bought from RBS by US-based investment bank Jefferies in 2012. RBS had acquired the business as part of its acquisition of ABN Amro in 2008.
