Unai Emery may only have been sacked by Arsenal two weeks ago, but he could be set for a very quick return to the Premier League with Everton.

The Spaniard was dismissed by the Gunners on 29 November after a really poor run of results and performances, with a 2-1 defeat by Frankfurt in the Europa League proving the final straw.

The 48-year-old’s spell at the Emirates will go down as a failure, but does not appear to have put off Everton who have been swift to get in contact with Emery.

The Toffees sacked Marco Silva on 5 December having found themselves in the Premier League relegation zone, leaving Duncan Ferguson in interim charge.

The Merseyside club are already making moves, though, and the Athletic report that talks have taken place between Emery and Everton’s majority investor Farhad Moshiri and chairman Bill Kenwright.

Shanghai SIPG manager Vitor Pereira had been considered a leading candidate to take over at Goodison Park, but has now confirmed that he is out of the running.

‘It’s always an honour and I am utterly grateful to be considered on a list by a club that I have so much respect for,’ said Pereira.

‘At this point I am still the coach of SIPG, a club close to my heart in a country that is growing immensely in football.

‘Currently I am not in a position to make any other commitments. I cannot decide now, I need time to think and plan my future by looking to all the options I have.

‘It’s a league I love and, yes, for sure, I would consider an opportunity in the future.’

The Times report that Carlo Ancelotti is being tracked as his Napoli future remains in doubt, although the bookmakers are convinced that David Moyes will return to the Goodison Park hot seat.

The Scot remains odds-on favourite to take the permanent role, while temporary boss Ferguson is behind him in the betting.

Everton returned to form under Ferguson at the weekend with a rousing 3-1 win over Chelsea in the Premier League and are back in action on Sunday away to Manchester United.
