UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov’s manager believes Floyd Mayweather is ‘begging’ to fight his client because he is ‘running out of money.’

A boxing match between the two men has been talked about since Khabib beat Conor McGregor at UFC 229 last October.

However, the bout seemed extremely unlikely with Mayweather back into retirement and Khabib signed to defend his UFC title against Dustin Poirier in September.

Ali Abdelaziz, though, thinks his client has the option to box the undefeated boxing superstar, with the Money Man desperate for cash.

‘Floyd Mayweather to this day keeps begging to fight Khabib, begging!’ Abdelaziz told TMZ Sports.

‘Floyd’s running out of money. I’m telling you, people reaching out to me every week about Floyd to fight Khabib but at the end of the day, we’re not interested, for now.’

‘At the end of the day we’re fighting Dustin Poirier, he’s a true No1 contender. We got El Cuccy (Tony Ferguson) he’s next — we got a lot of killers in this weight division. We got my man Georges St-Pierre – he might be next too.

‘I can see Georges fighting Khabib before Tony fights Khabib but of course, Dustin is next.’

The Eagle does have a string of contenders to deal with at 155lbs in the UFC, but Mayweather has claimed in the past that it was the Dagestani’s team that came to him over a fight rather than the other way round.

‘They came to me talking about the Khabib fight,’ Mayweather told TMZ Sports at the start of 2019. ‘Khabib called me out, I didn’t call Khabib out.

‘They said it has to happen in the Octagon and I said, “You just tell me where Khabib has made nine figures before in the Octagon.”

‘If he hasn’t made nine figures, he’s not the A side. I’m the A side, so if you guys want the fight to happen, you must come my way. My way, my rules.’

Mayweather remains retired, for now, while Khabib fights Poirier at UFC 242 in Abu Dhabi on 7 September.
