Flights: World’s cleanest airline cabins revealed – where did Ryanair & easyJet rank?

Flights with easyJet and Ryanair are very popular among British travellers thanks to their cheap prices and huge range of destinations. How clean are they though? A 2019 awards listing has ranked the top airlines for cabin cleanliness – did the two low-cost airlines feature? Skytrax’s World’s Best Airline Cabin Cleanliness 2019 have been announced. According to the UK constancy: “Passengers rated the standards and quality of cleanliness in the aircraft cabin for airlines.

“Cleanliness and presentation of seat areas, tables, carpets, cabin panels and washrooms all contribute towards the final results.”

The airline with the cleanest cabin of all is Taiwanese airline EVA Air. The carrier has risen from second place last year.

Japan Airlines came in second position. The airline hit headlines recently for its new technology which will alert passengers as to where babies and toddlers will be seated within a cabin.

Japan’s ANA All Nippon Airways – the winner of the 2018 awards – came in third place.

EVA Air and ANA All Nippon Airways both came in the top 10 in Skytrax’s The World’s Top 10 Airlines of 2019.

In alarming news for the UK, no British airline featured in the top 20 for the World’s Best Airline Cabin Cleanliness 2019.

Ryanair and easyJet were nowhere to be seen but, perhaps more surprisingly, nor was British Airways.

European airlines popular with Britons did feature in the list for 2019, though.

Swiss International Air Lines came in seventh place and was awarded Best Airline Cabin Cleanliness in Europe 2019.

German carrier Lufthansa came in 10th place, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines in 15th and Finnish airline Finnair in 20th.

Air Canada was voted as the airline with the cleanest cabin in North America while Qatar Airways won the accolade for the Middle East.

Hygiene on a plane can vary greatly, with different items proving cleaner and dirtier than others.

A flight attendant has revealed there’s a common item which passengers should never use.

Cabin crew member Jamila Hardwick spoke on American television program Inside Edition to explain that fliers should never use the plane pillow provided.

Hardwick claimed it’s only the pillow covers that are washed meaning the pillow itself remains dirty.

She said: “They take the off the lining and wash it, but the pillow inside is still dirty.”
