Flights: Passengers baffled at flyer's bizarre bathroom habits – will it beat bad hygiene?

Planes are often not the most hygienic places to be due to a fast turnaround for cleaners between flights. Couple that with messy passengers travelling on a prior flight and all kinds of grime can pop up in unexpected places. However, one passenger seems to have her own method for beating the germs when travelling.

Hundreds of Instagram users flocked to the comments section to share their opinion and express their confusion at the scene.

One commenter said: “Lavatory floors ARE nasty, but wouldn’t it be easier to just keep your shoes on your feet?”

While another questioned: “If you’re going without shoes and have gloves why not just keep the footies with you – easier to get on and off.”

One bamboozled viewer even went so far as to describe the situation as their “worst nightmare”.

Despite the traveller’s extreme lengths to protect her toes from the toilet floor, it seems there is one place on board which is more rife in germs than the bathroom.

The tray table was found to be one of the dirtiest places on the plane after a study in 2015 found 2,155 colony forming units (CFU) on a table, compared to just 265 on a toilet flush button.

Other areas on board that have drawn attention for their hygiene were the “dirty carpets” and the seat pockets.

One flight attendant on Reddit even admitted to finding “finger and toenails” stowed within the pouch.
