Flights cancelled & travel chaos ongoing as Storm Dennis wreaks havoc – are you affected?

Flights were disrupted as the half-term holidays got underway this weekend. Hundreds of flights – namely easyJet routes – were cancelled as a result of Storm Dennis. It’s estimated 10,000 people were affected by Sunday’s cancellations, on top of around 40,000 whose flights did not depart on Saturday.

The airline cancelled 40 short-haul flights to and from Heathrow on Saturday afternoon and evening as a result of the weather.

Then, on Sunday afternoon an IT failure at Heathrow saw flights cancelled or heavily delayed.

Departure gate information had to be handwritten on whiteboards at all four passenger terminals.

Although the problem was announced as fixed yesterday evening, the knock-on effect on BA flights is still being felt.

DON’T MISS

At least 10,000 more have had their flights to or from the busiest airport in Europe cancelled on Monday, reported The Independent.

A BA spokeswoman told Express.co.uk: “The vast majority of our flights are planned to operate as scheduled, but like all airlines flying to and from the UK today we are experiencing some disruption due to the stormy weather conditions.

“Customers can check ba.com for the latest flight information.”

More than 100 flights were axed yesterday – the majority of which were British Airways.

The airline had intended to cancel 20 due to the bad weather but went on to ground a further 80.

Today, British Airways has already axed at least 79 arrivals and departures at Heathrow because aircraft and crew are out of position.

The cancellations are due to affect at least 12,000 passengers. Long delays are also to be expected.

All the grounded flights are short-haul, with Milan, Geneva, and Barcelona hit by multiple cancellations.

BA passengers are being urged to check the status of their flight before they leave for the airport.

British Airways issued the advice on its website: “We would ask anyone due to travel from London Heathrow check the status of your flight for the latest on your flight before you leave from Heathrow airport.

“Please also make sure your contact details are up to date in Manage My Booking.

“London Gatwick and London City Airport flights are unaffected.

“If you are travelling short haul and your flight is still due to go ahead, but you would prefer not to fly from London Heathrow, then you can opt to rebook your journey for another day up to and including 20 February.

“To make changes to your journey, you should contact us.”
