Flights: Cabin crew reveals ‘disgusting’ truth about this part of your plane seat

Cabin crew on flights are well-used to travelling by planes across the globe. With so much time spent in aircraft, it stands to reason flight attendants know the dos and don’ts of life onboard. One cabin crew member has revealed a disgusting truth about planes – and what passengers should always do.

Hardwick recommended using antibacterial wipes to clean down a tray before you use it.

“Please bring them on, please clean off your trays before you put anything on here,” the cabin crew member urged.

A study by Insurancequotes.com last year showed a tray table had 11.595 germ colony-forming units (CFUs), making it the second dirtiest commonly used area of the plane after the flush button on the toilet seat.

Another flight attendant explained on Reddit that people often behave foully with tray tables.

DON’T MISS

They wrote: ”People frequently do disgusting things on their tray tables (I’ve seen people change diapers, clip toenails and wipe boogers to name a few), though these discoveries pale in comparison to human faeces under a seat.”

Hardwick also urged passengers to bring their own pillows and blankets.

“[Blankets] get washed but we’re not sure how great they get washed,” she said.

“Same for the pillows – we’ll take the lining off the pillow and put a new one on.

“But you still have the pillow in there that’s dirty.”

The seat pocket on plane seats may well also be more disgusting than you think, too.

“I ALWAYS recommend you never, ever, ever, EVER use or put anything in the seat pocket,” a flight attendant posted on US discussion site Reddit said.

“They are cleared of rubbish but are never ‘cleaned’.

“I have pulled out and seen all sorts been pulled out from there.

“Dirty tissues, sick bags, knickers, socks, peoples feet, gum, half sucked sweets, apple cores… and then next flight you go and put your phone/laptop/iPad in there.”

Passengers should also avoid walking about the cabin barefoot due to all the nasties there, particularly on the toilet floor.
