Flight secrets: Cabin crew reveals one item you should never use on plane for vile reason

Cabin crew are well used to the goings-on inside an aircraft thanks to their frequent airborne travels. Consequently, they are au fait with the dos and don’ts of travelling on board a plane. A flight attendant has revealed there’s a common item which passengers should never use. This is because it’s actually much dirtier than you think – and no cabin crew would ever use one.

Cabin crew member Jamila Hardwick shared the insight on American television program Inside Edition.

The flight attendant explained that fliers should never use the plane pillow provided.

Hardwick claimed it’s only the pillow covers that are washed meaning the pillow itself remains dirty.

She said: “They take the off the lining and wash it, but the pillow inside is still dirty.”

The cabin crew member explained flight attendants would never use the pillows on planes.

She advises bringing your own – and the same goes for the blankets airlines provide.

Hardwick said: “These get washed, but we’re not sure how great they get washed.”

Last month, a video emerged on social media of a man sneezing into an airline blanket and wiping nose on it.

The Twitter user who uploaded the clip dubbed the man’s actions as “dirty” and “filthy.”

Airlines generally send blankets off to be washed at an industrial facility.

However, passengers should check that plane blankets are wrapped when they sit down as sometimes crew simply fold up blankets after use.

Hardwick also recommended taking disinfectant wipes in hand luggage and swabbing down the surfaces around your seat when you board a plane – and the tray table in particular.

Model Naomi Campbell is a vocal advocate of this and a video of her cleaning her Business Class seat rapidly went viral after being posted to her YouTube.

The video clip of Campbell shows the star donning a pair of latex gloves and wielding a pack of Dettol antibacterial wipes.

“You clean anything you could possibly touch,” she tells the camera. “Anything you can put your hands on.”

“This is what I do on every plane I get on,” Campbell explains as she busts the germs.
