League/Tournament Brands:

Flashpoint, the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, tournament series, has made the decision to switch its Flashpoint 1 (season one) matches from LAN play to online, effective immediately. The decision will cause a slight delay in the playing schedule as teams transition from the league’s Los Angeles Studio to getting set up to play from a remote location.

The league was one of the last to continue to play matches offline, but as health concerns started to rise related to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and movement restrictions began to be handed down by government agencies, the league made the decision to change.

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti has issued a number of orders including the shutting down of bars, restaurants, and venues such as movie theaters and gyms. Restaurants have been ordered to shut down in terms of not allowing dine-in customers, but they may provide take out services or delivery. Restrictions will last until March 31 and then be reevaluated.

Unlike traditional sports such as the National Basketball Association (NBA) or Major League Baseball (MLB), esports has been able to pivot from LAN leagues and events with live audiences, transitioning to streamed competitions.
