First trailer for The Aeronauts soars into view

With one Oscar-winning collaboration already under their belt, Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones have reteamed for a big-screen period adventure about pushing the boundaries of human endeavour – in hot-air balloons. And now The Aeronauts‘ gusty first trailer has been released online to give us a glimpse of what to expect.

The Theory Of Everything netted Redmayne a Best Actor Oscar win and Jones a Best Actress Oscar nomination back in 2015, and now they’re back together for another awards-friendly Brit flick. Set in 1862, The Aeronauts follows wealthy young widow Amelia Wren (Jones) and headstrong scientist James Glaisher (Redmayne) as they mount a perilous balloon expedition to fly higher than anyone in history. It’s an ambitious journey and no mistake – thanks to thin air and stormy weather, their chances of survival are slim at best.

You can watch the trailer below…

The film co-stars Yesterday‘s Himesh Patel (who’ll next be seen in Christopher Nolan’s Tenet) and is directed by Tom Harper (Wild Rose, Peaky Blinders) from a script by Jack Thorne (the writer of West End hit Harry Potter And The Cursed Child). It has already faced some criticisms over its historical inaccuracies – although the film only claims to be “inspired by” true events – but this is exactly the sort of triumph (we presume) over adversity story that the Academy loves, so don’t be surprised if it does do the rounds this coming awards season.

The Aeronauts makes its UK debut at the London Film Festival in October before flying into cinemas on 6 November.
