First pictures of Aaron Wan-Bissaka in Man Utd shirt leaked as fans wait on announcement

The 21-year-old will become the Red Devils’ second signing of the summer after Daniel James in a deal costing in the region of £50million, which consists of £5m in appearance-based add-ons.

The right-back enjoyed an excellent season for Crystal Palace last term to establish himself as one of the best right-backs in the country, with his defensive abilities in particular rightly highly regarded.

Wan-Bissaka has been in Manchester since Wednesday night and completed a medical yesterday, putting pen-to-paper on a long-term contract which some suggest could be as long as six years, which would be the most prolonged terms the club have ever offered.

The England under-21 international becomes Manchester United’s fifth most expensive player ever after Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku, Angel Di Maria and Fred and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will hope he has bought the club’s new first-choice right-back for the best part of a decade.

He will replace Antonio Valencia, who leaves the club open the expiry of his contract this week after a 10-year stay.

Pictures leaked via social media of Wan-Bissaka in a Man United kit and also of the Croydon-born full-back posing with his entourage including his agent Will Salthouse.

That follows images having found their way to Twitter of the player at home with his family in a United shirt as a youngster.

Wan-Bissaka only made his Palace debut 16 months ago and has enjoyed a rapid rise since then, having made 35 appearances for the Eagles in the Premier League last season.

And Charlie Adam thinks the player’s Old Trafford arrival shows the club are working from similar blueprints to neighbours Manchester City, who have benefitted from investing in English talent over the last five years.

Adam told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport: “Everybody said John Stones too expensive at £50million, Raheem Sterling £50million too expensive, Kyle Walker £50million too expensive.

“They’re going to get 10 years at Man City out of them.

“Coming eight to 10 years’ time, Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s still at Man United, they’ll be saying, ‘Well that was cheap wasn’t it?’

“For me as everybody said it’s £50m but in the long term, if he stays there a long time, it’s cheap.

“He’s the next one in line [at right-back] after Kyle Walker, Trent Alexander-Arnold.

“He was probably unlucky not to be in the Nations League squad because of his performances last year. He’s the next product that England have got.

“United want to go young and build for the future like Man City have done in the last previous years.”

But Harry Redknapp insists Solskjaer still needs as many as six more additions this summer, with goalscoring Sporting CP midfielder Bruno Fernandes and Newcastle’s Sean Longstaff among those on his wish-list, while United are also keen on signing a centre-back.

“Wan-Bissaka has a big future, but I think they need four, five, maybe even six players. I think they’re miles away,” Redknapp told talkSPORT.

“Man United need to bring in good players to give Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the chance to be successful and, looking at it at the moment, I wouldn’t see them making the top four.

“They need to restructure that team, there’s an awful lot of work that needs to be done there to get them challenging for the title again.”
