First look at Oscars red carpet as preparations for Hollywood's biggest night get underway


Fans have been given their first look at the Oscars red carpet as preparations for Hollywood’s biggest night of the year get underway.

The Academy Awards 2020 take place in Los Angeles tomorrow night and production staff are busy setting the stage at the fabled Dolby Theatre.

Crews of workers have also been seen laying down the red carpet outside the building, and putting up the various stages and decor.

Pictures show lighting rigs going up and cardboard cut outs of the of Oscar statuette being lined up outside the venue.

The outdoor set-up on Hollywood Boulevard will be where the stars strut their stuff down the red carpet before heading inside the theatre for the ceremony.

Among the famous faces expected to walk the red carpet tomorrow night are nominees including brad Pitt, Scarlett Johansson and Margot Robbie.

The ceremony itself will be a clash of the titans as Quentin Tarantino and Martin Scorsese face off with 10 nominations each.

Both directors have been nominated for 10 gongs, including best director and best picture for their latest films, Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood and The Irishman, respectively.

They weren’t the only movies to get multiple nods from the Academy Awards.

Jojo Rabbit was handed six nominations, as was Little Women, and Bombshell was nominated for three prizes.

Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood is currently favourite to take the Best Picture gong at the Oscars following its success at the Critics’ Choice last night.

The movie – starring Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio – triumphed over rivals including 1917, The Irishman and Marriage Story .

The Oscars are out in force

For the second year in a row, the glitzy show will be without a host.

The 2019 ceremony was thrown into chaos when Kevin Hart stepped down from the job at the last minute after a series of homophobic tweets from his accounts reemerged.

The show went on with a number of “mini-hosts” replacing him. Stars including Tina Fey and Amy Poehler took charge of segments of the show instead of having one presenter leading all the way through.
