Fans have been given a first look at Sir Lenny Henry’s character in Doctor Who – and we just can’t work him out.

Appearing on The One Show, the actor couldn’t give too much away as he was quizzed on if he’s a baddie or not in the hit series.

‘When you were a kid you would hide behind the sofa and watch,’ he exclaimed just before the clip was played.

The trailer showed his character in action, being interviewed by a reporter, and it’s safe to say he doesn’t come across as the friendliest of people.

In the clip, his character can be seen saying: ‘You only got in because you’re Brits and my mum reads your paper, she’s old and into legacy media.’

In the interview with one of the reporters, he explains to her: ‘We could never afford to go abroad when I was a kid and now I even have my own passenger plane, I fly my mates around the world and insult then through the intercom during the flight.’

Ok so we know it’s not much to go on, but either way, it has left Doctor Who fans reeling.

Stephen Fry will also be making a guest appearance in season 12.

When Jodie Whittaker’s Time Lord travels the universe once again next year, she is set to meet the actors along the way.

Showrunner Chris Chibnall said he is buzzing to be working with ‘two of my absolute favourite actors’.

‘Doctor Who is coming back with a bang – with two great British icons in major roles,’ he said.

‘One of the great joys of Doctor Who is getting to work with actors from your wish list. Stephen and Lenny are two of my absolute favourite actors – and to be able to bring them into Doctor Who, in our one of our biggest ever stories to kick off the new series, is an absolute thrill.’

Series 12, which has just finished filming, will reunite Chris with Lenny, who appeared in series three of his crime drama Broadchurch.

The news comes after reports that Doctor Who is set to kick off with a New Year’s Day special in place of a Christmas episode for the second year running.

Doctor Who returns to BBC One in 2020.
