Fireworks New Year’s Eve: Where to see fireworks displays on NYE tonight

What’s New Year’s Eve without a sensational firework display? Whether it’s the echoing boom as the sky is lit in an array of colourful explosions, to the sound of cheers and thousands screaming ‘Happy New Year’, fireworks are often the perfect way to mark the start of a new year.

The displays – which last no longer than 10 minutes – has seen hundreds of thousands travel and line the streets across the nation and this year is expected to be no different.

In preparation, we’ve listed below some of the several fiverworks displays taking place across the country.

And if you don’t feel like heading out, you can watch the display on television, allowing you to have a cosy night in and watch the spectacle all from the comfort of your own home.

Newcastle

Newcastle nightlife is second to none – and their annual fireworks display is sure to live up to the hype and bring a level of vibrancy and excitement to mark 2020.

To witness the fireworks in all its glory, head on down to the Quayside as thousands will be readily waiting to ring in the new year set against a backdrop of the Tyne and Gateshead bridges.

To get a good view, get to the banks of the river by 11pm. As the countdown begins, you’ll be greeted with a phenomenal fireworks display with the Tyne Bridge backdrop.

Glasgow

The Scottish city is back with their annual Hogmanay party, which is considered the hottest ticket in Glasgow. The street party which starts at 5pm is often packed to the brim as many attend the shindig to celebrate the new year in style.

Tickets are £25 a pop, and you’ll be raving into the new year with a canopy of fairy lights, and a mashup of live music and commercial pop for a fun-filled start to 2020.

Edinburgh

The Edinburgh fireworks display is pretty pricey – tickets cost £31.50 per person and £21.50 for Edinburgh residents – but it’s also worth it given the location. Taking place at Edinburgh Castle, this famous street party is one of the biggest NYE parties taking place in Scotland.

As the clock strikes 12, the city’s castle is illuminated with a huge firework display as attendees start their new year with a bang.

Cardiff

Keeping the festive spirit alive, Cardiff’s fireworks display will take place at their Winter Wonderland.

Open from 12.15pm with fireworks at midnight, the space will be filled with funfair rides, hot food and drinks, live entertainment and a small ice rink at £15 per person.

The NYE celebrations will also be headlined by James Williams, who will be joined by a special guest and will introduce the evening firework display.
