Final Fantasy 7 Remake PC version low-key confirmed in message from producer

Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s producer has shared a ‘launch message’ for fans, which contains footage captured on PC.

Some fans may have already got their copies earlier in the week, but today is the day when Final Fantasy 7 Remake officially launches. And with it has come a launch message from producer Yoshinori Kitase.

The message itself is simply Kitase describing the game as something that ‘meets or goes beyond [our] expectations’, acknowledging how long fans have had to wait for it and that it has been 23 years since the original PlayStation classic. He’s not wrong either, it’s a pretty excellent reinvention.

Unlike the final trailer, which arguably spoiled a lot of the game’s climax, this video’s safe to watch. But one big takeaway from it comes from a brief bit of text at the bottom of the screen that says, ‘Gameplay captured on PC.’

This more-or-less seems to confirm that the game will be coming to PC at some point in the future. This isn’t too surprising as a number of mainline Final Fantasy titles have been released on PC, including the mammoth Final Fantasy 15.

A PC release would not only get the game in the hands of more people but would also be subjected to the modding community. A quick look online will net you loads of Final Fantasy 15 mods that replace Noctis and his crew with other characters. Imagine Final Fantasy 7 Remake but Sephiroth is replaced with Thomas the Tank Engine.

However, any potential PC release is at least a year away from actually coming out. In fact, the video reminds us that the game is a PlayStation 4 exclusive until 10 April 2021. So the suspected Xbox One version will be at least that long as well.

Square Enix have never actually said that Final Fantasy 7 Remake will be released on other platforms but referring to it as a timed exclusive pretty much confirms it. We can also probably expect a PlayStation 5 re-release in the future as well.
