FIFA 20: Will Kylian Mbappé become one of FIFA’s best U21’s ever in this year’s game?

It was a disappointing season for PSG, by many people’s standards. However, Kylian Mbappé, the pacey, prolific, promising striker delivered.

The French international scored 33 goals in just 29 appearances, also bagging 7 assists.

This means that the 20-year-old scored 1.14 goals per game, which destroys the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo with 0.68 goals a game and just tips Lionel Messi at 1.06 goals a game.

As expected, Mbappé picked up Ligue 1 top goalscorer and Ligue 1 Player of the Year. Will this be enough to earn a massive upgrade in FIFA 20?

RealSport looks at why this may well happen.

Breakthrough

Perhaps Mbappé broke through as soon as he arrived on the scene in 2015. However, to score more goals in the 2018/19 season than you have managed in your entire senior career, is something to shout about. To put it into perspective, he had 29 league goals before the 2018/19 season started, now the clinical Frenchmen has 62.

The shift from right wing to striker midway through the season, was a brilliant move by Thomas Tuchel. Neymar’s injury caused a reshuffle which caused Mbappé to step up and take up a more central role alongside Edinson Cavani.

It highlights his adaptability and drive to become the best and it showed throughout his remarkable season.

With Neymar trying to force a move away and Cavani getting older, Mbappé must now be the centre point of PSG’s plans for now and the future.

Age is just a number

To be at such a high level for club and country at such a young age makes Kylian Mbappé the phenomenon he is. To have a 2018 FIFA World Cup winner’s medal and a 2018 FIFA World Cup Best Young Player award already, plus 3 league titles and over 15 individual awards, is out of this world.

To have already proven you can compete with the world’s best, at such a young age, can only draw comparisons with the likes of Messi and Ronaldo. Which is why he surely deserves a crazy rating in FIFA 20.

Becoming the best

Kylian Mbappé is undoubtedly one of the world’s best. His natural goal scoring ability and technique on the ball is second to none.

A rating of 91, for what he has achieved this year seems fair, with a huge improvement on his shooting and a noticeable increase on his dribbling stat.

He will be one of the best players on the game, with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Virgil van Dijk most likely surpassing his rating, with Luka Modric, Eden Hazard and Neymar very much in touching distance.

What the future holds

Coming onto the scene at 16 years old and being only 20 now, continuing to improve year after year, domestically and internationally is a given and can only lead to bigger and better ratings in future FIFAs.

The main aspects holding him back are the lack of Champions League success and the current standard he is playing at.

PSG have been so successful in Ligue 1 for the past couple of seasons, being leaps and bounds ahead of any other team, in terms of quality.

However, they haven’t won any European silverware. In the coming years, a strong Champions League run and a move to a more competitive league, such as the Premier League or the Serie A, could see an even bigger boost to his rating.

There is no doubt Mbappé will remain as one of the greats for years to come – both in real life and on FIFA.
