Attention, Ultimate Team players!
Every year, EA drops new content on a consistent basis throughout the festive period, such as limited-time ‘Lightning Round’ special packs and one-day-only Squad Building Challenges (SBCs).
FUTmas was first introduced six years ago, and it has become a staple of the Ultimate Team experience.
But how exactly can you make the most of all the offers without bankrupting your club?

What is FUTmas?
FUTmas is the annual celebration of FIFA Ultimate Team and Christmas (as you’ve surely worked out by now).
FUTmas will span nineteen days this year, starting on December 13th and running through to New Year’s Eve, December 31st.
SBCs
There are three types of Squad Building Challenges available:
Daily Player SBCs, Prime Icon SBCs, and FUTmas-themed SBCs.
Three Daily Player SBCs go live every evening at 6pm and stay available for 24 hours.
They usually see a rare gold player have his stats increased by anything up to six overall points.

For instance, the first three last year were as follows:
- Alejandro Gomes (Atlanta) – increased from 84 OVR to 86 OVR
- Wilfried Zaha (Crystal Palace) – increased from 82 OVR to 84 OVR
- Lucas Torreira (Arsenal) – increased from 76 OVR to 82 OVR

Based on the first weekend last year, there’s no specific pattern to the FUTmas-themed SBCs.
A straightforward one titled ‘Futmas Challenge’, became available shortly after the campaign started last year, offering players a Mega Pack (30 cards, all gold, 18 rare) in exchange for their gold squad with five or more rare cards and at least 90 chemistry.
It’s worth your while signing in at around 6pm every evening to keep tabs on SBCs.
What other FUTmas content can players unlock?
Themed daily and weekly objectives are available throughout the campaign, along with iconic FUTmas kits.
For instance, last year’s ‘Week One objectives’ included winning six online matches with an MLS team to earn league MVP Josef Martinez (86 OVR).
Should I do the daily player SBCs?
It all depends on how much you like that player, and how well he can be integrated into your squad.
The best questions you can ask yourself, with a little help from Redditor Imaduckquackk, are as follows:
1. Do you want this card?
2. Increase its cost by 50% – do you still want it?
3. Name five players you would prefer within this new budget.

If you can’t answer question three, complete the SBC, otherwise don’t waste your coins.
How do I get the best packs and cards?
For the best packs, only do SBCs. Never actually buy packs using your coins.

Instead, make the most of the market being flooded with gold cards. Prices inevitably drop as people become desperate to offload unneeded cards, and that’s where you can get the best deals.
EA will release ‘special’ packs for direct purchase at various points in the Christmas period. Do not go anywhere near them.
Keep tabs on the market and when a player drops within your chosen price range, snap him up.
