FIFA 20: Netherlands player rating predictions – Van Dijk, Depay, Wiljnaldum & more

The Netherlands national football team has been a force on the world stage for a long time but are still on the list of nations who somehow have never won the World Cup.

The Dutch reinvented football in the 1970s and have produced some of the greatest footballers the world has ever seen. After reaching the 2010 World Cup Final, the Netherlands failed to qualify for both Euro 2016 and the 2018 World Cup and are looking to re-establish themselves as a powerhouse of world football.

RealSport takes a look into what the players predicted ratings could be on the new up-and-coming FIFA 20 when it releases September 24th.

Jasper Cillessen (OVR 81 – 82)

Position: GK

Age: 30

Club: Valencia

On 25 August 2016, Cillessen signed a five-year contract with Barcelona for an initial €13 million transfer fee plus another €2 million in add-ons who was replacing the outgoing Claudio Bravo. After three seasons with Barcelona, Cillessen signed a four-year contract with Valencia on 25 June 2019, for a fee of €35 million. The Dutch keeper has been a solid player for the Netherlands in goal and is known for his shot stopping abilities and being able to save both long and short shots.

Denzel Dumfries (OVR 73 – 76)

Position: RB

Age: 23

Club: PSV

We here at RealSport predict Dumfries to raise from his base rated card at 73 to 76 after conveying his abilities of being able to win aerial duels, pass effectively and dribble past the opposition. Dumfries earned his first full international call up when Ronald Koeman named him in the Netherlands squad in October 2018. The youngster has a long career ahead of him to represent his country and room to keep growing as a player; with this conveys how his FIFA rating will increase from 73 to 76.

Matthijs de Ligt (OVR 83 – 85)

Position: CB

Age: 20

Club: Piemonte Calcio (Juventus)

On 21 September 2016, De Ligt made his debut for Ajax’s senior team in a cup game against Willem II. He scored from a corner after 25 minutes, making him the second-youngest goalscorer for Ajax. In 2017.

De Ligt made his debut for the Netherlands at the age of 17, making him the youngest player to start for the national team since 1931. His physicality coupled with his defensive abilities highlighted in his most recent season all at the age of 20 conveys why his player rating should increase in FIFA 20.

Virgil Van Dijk (OVR 88 – 90)

Position: CB

Age: 28

Club: Liverpool

Virgil van Dijk was in imperious form throughout 2018/19, form which has seen him listed as odds-on favorite for the Balon D’or this year. A giant in central defence, Van Dijk’s physical prowess, mobility and calmness have made him a fan favourite in both real life and on FIFA 19. The Netherlands international will be ranked among the best players on FIFA 20 so don’t be surprised if he breaches the 90 OVR mark.

Daley Blind (OVR 79 – 82)

Position: CB, LB, CDM

Age: 29

Club: Ajax

Question marks hung over Daley Blind following his spell at Man United, however he has answered his critics and formed a superb partnership with De Ligt at Ajax. Blind does not possess the physical attributes of the classic modern centre back; however, he reads the game well and has an excellent temperament. The Dutch international will receive a boost to 82 OVR on FIFA 20.

Marten de Roon (OVR 76 – 76)

Position: CM

Age: 28

Club: Atalanta

De Roon has represented the Netherlands under-19 national team in the qualification rounds for the 2010 UEFA European Under-19 Football Championship. He was later named in the first Dutch squad chosen by new national team manager Ronald Koeman. De Roon has proved to be effective in both attack and defence for the Netherlands and the Italian side Atalanta.

Frenkie de Jong (OVR 82 – 84)

Position: CM, CDM

Age: 22

Club: Barcelona

Arriving with a £67.5 million transfer fee, Frenkie de Jong has a lot of hype to live up too. Everything we have seen of him so far suggests he will deal with the pressure as he impressed enormously for both Ajax and Netherlands last season. The 22-year-old is likely to reach 84 OVR on FIFA 20 as his rise to the top continues.

Georginio Wijnaldum (OVR 82 – 83)

Position: CM

Age: 28

Club: Liverpool

Another fan favourite and hero of the miraculous semi-final win over Barcelona, Georginio Wijnaldum is a mobile and athletic central midfielder with the ability of breaking into the box. Tidy on the ball, the 28-year-old is understated on the pitch and keeps things ticking for Liverpool. His 82 OVR won’t improve hugely much on FIFA 20 but he remains a key part of the midfield, especially as Naby Keita is yet to fulfil his potential on Merseyside.

Ryan Babel (OVR 79 – 78)

Position: LM

Age: 32

Club: Galatasaray S.K.

In May 2008, Babel was selected for the Dutch squad which would compete in the UEFA Euro 2008 tournament. On 31 May, it was announced that Babel had been withdrawn from the squad after tearing ankle ligaments in training. However, Babel has now returned after being recently contracted to Galatasaray, and is back playing for the Netherlands.

Memphis Depay (OVR 84 – IF 87)

Position: CF, ST

Age: 25

Club: Olympique Lyonnais

On the final day of the 2017-18 season, Depay scored a hat-trick against Nice as Lyon won 3-2 and qualified for the next season’s UEFA Champions League. Lyon saw a huge win this weekend with a six-nil win over Angers. Memphis Depay contributed two goals towards this win highlighting why we here at RealSport have predicted his card to increase from his current 84 base rating to 87.

Quincy Promes (OVR 83 – 82)

Position: LM, ST, RM

Age: 27

Club: Ajax

Ajax’s biggest new signing Quincy Promes arrives on the back of an underwhelming season having scored just two league goals. Promes will fit well into the Ajax attack as he is comfortable on the wing and in central areas. The Dutch international will see a drop in his overall on FIFA 20 and will be an 82 OVR.

Off the Bench

The Eredivisie league keeper Kennith Vermeer (OVR 75 – 75) will deputise for Cillessen when either injured or not available. This highlights he may not be a regular player for the Netherlands.

In defence, the Netherlands are covered with solid players that are able to go on and do a good job, although once again may not be regulars. Such as Kenny Tete (OVR 78 – 77). Stefan de Vrij (OVR 84 – 84) will easily be able to cover the youngster De Ligt, and the Dutch star Van Dijk.

The midfielders on the bench for the Netherlands consists of the 22-year-old Donny Van de Beek (OVR 76 – 81) who can come on with excellent attacking and defensive abilities. Included in the midfield back up is Davy Propper (OVR 77 – 78) who is expected to raise in ratings for FIFA 20.

Last but not least, the forwards, Steven Berghuis (OVR 79 – 79) can score goals up front and is also able to assist his team mates, along with Luuk de Jong (OVR 78 – 82) who has proven his worth this season and could even potentially start for the Netherlands and definitely one to watch.
