FESTIVE-themed sarnies are more fattening than two Mars bars, our investigation reveals. M&S’s three bird roast sandwich is the unhealthiest at 608 calories – the same as a chicken roast with two Yorkshire puddings and gravy.
Pret’s Christmas lunch sandwich of turkey, cranberry sauce and pork stuffing comes in at 582 calories, with 25.5g fat. And Tesco’s pigs under blankets sage and onion soft sub is close behind.
Many are close to the recommended 600 calories for a meal — before adding the usual drink and bag of crisps. And some vegan sandwiches, seen by many as a healthy alternative, are anything but. M&S’s The Nutcracker sandwich has 495 calories and 17.2g fat.
Diet and exercise expert Sheree Cox said: “While many of us love a festive sandwich, many of them actually contain more calories than two Mars bars. Everything in moderation is key.”
