Fern Britton asks fans if Covid is 'a con to control us' in Twitter debate 'I had to ask!'

Fern Britton, 64, has said she believes that “COVID is a real and dangerous virus”, as she encouraged her 78,000 followers to share their own pandemic conspiracy theories. The former This Morning host admitted that she “was not coping” just days before England was placed into a national lockdown for the third time today.

She typed on Twitter: “I believe Covid is a real and dangerous virus running amok amongst the world’s population and ruining the world’s economy.

“However, if this is all a con to control us, what is the end game? This is an authentic question.”

Many rushed to disagree that it was a “con”, as one said there is “no benefit” to pretending that there’s a virus.

They typed: “What is the benefit to the whole world pretending there’s a virus, people losing their livelihoods, etc. Funny they can never answer that when I ask. It’s totally bonkers!”

He said in his speech last night: “Our scientists have confirmed this new variant [of the virus] is between 50 and 70 per cent more transmissible – that means you are much, much more likely to catch the virus and to pass it on.

“As I speak to you tonight, our hospitals are under more pressure from COVID than at any time since the start of the pandemic.

“In England alone, the number of COVID patients in hospitals has increased by nearly a third in the last week, to almost 27,000. That number is 40 per cent higher than the first peak in April.

“That means the Government is once again instructing you to stay at home,” he finished.
