Ferdinand hails Thiago as "dream" Liverpool signing after display vs Chelsea

Rio Ferdinand says Thiago Alcantara would be a “dream” signing for Liverpool after the star’s performance against Chelsea on Saturday.

The 29-year-old featured in Bayern Munich’s convincing 4-1 victory over Frank Lampard’s side which sealed their passage to the Champions League quarter-finals.

Thiago is looking to sign off on his Bayern career by winning a prestigious treble, with two out of the three trophies already in the bag.

He has made it clear to Bayern chiefs he wishes to move to the Premier League this summer after snubbing the offer of a new contract, with Liverpool in prime position to land his signature.

And Ferdinand explained why the player would be an ideal investment for champions Liverpool.

Speaking after the match to BT Sport, Ferdinand said: “He is a conductor, somebody who controls the tempo of the game, he’s got a wing mirror so he can see behind him, can see all angles, play every pass in the game.

“Intelligent player, he speaks the language which is an important part of it as well.

“He’d be a dream to have for someone like Liverpool. He’s the type of player they probably haven’t got.”

Jurgen Klopp is an admirer of the midfielder but Liverpool chiefs have informed their manager he must raise funds for his transfer by selling current stars.

Bayern have set a price tag of around £27million for Thiago, who is already into the final 12 months of his contract.

Liverpool do not have funds freely available to spend in the transfer window but are hoping to boost their kitty by offloading several fringe players.

Dejan Lovren has already departed for £11m, while Adam Lallana’s salary is off the wage bill after his free transfer to Brighton.

Xherdan Shaqiri, Harry Wilson, Marko Grujic and Loris Karius are all also up for sale.
