Fenty is praised for showing unedited facial scars in its latest campaign

She revolutionised the beauty industry with her groundbreaking 40-shade foundation range and diverse lineup of models in her AW18 Savage X Fenty fashion show, and it seems Rihanna‘s push for inclusivity in the fashion industry shows no signs of stopping any time soon.

In the latest promotional photos for her Fenty fashion collaboration with LVMH, Rihanna once again proved her commitment to representing the diverse spectrum of womanhood by leaving photos of a model’s scarred skin completely unedited.

Twitter user Farah was the first to point out that a promotional photo of model Aweng Chuol had been left untouched by Photoshop, quite unlike the seemingly perfect, unattainable images we scroll through every day on our Instagram feeds.

“I love that the images used on Fenty are not retouched, and that the models skin is not perfect by societal standards,” Farah wrote in her post, and other users quickly turned up to praise the beauty mogul for diversifying from the mainstream beauty rules.

The South Sudanese model model in the photo, Aweng Chuol, told Dazed Digital in an interview last year that her facial scars do not define her, although she believes they make her unique.

“Sometimes I just want to shout at everyone: ‘Look at me, I’m not just a scar, I’m a human.'” she began. “But I get it, it’s a curiosity. I know I’m different, I know my facial features are different, but to me that’s beauty.”

“They are part of who I am. I had it instilled in me from a young age that my scars made me beautiful. They were normal in my culture. They’re seen as a sign of coming of age or becoming a woman.”

If the success of [link url=”[link url=”https://www.glamourmagazine.co.uk/article/rihanna-fenty-beauty-makeup”]Fenty Beauty[/link]”]Fenty Beauty[/link] is anything to go by, something tells us Rihanna is about to take the fashion world by storm. And we’re ready for it, because it’s time to switch up society’s singular view of beauty for good.
