HAPPY International Women’s Day!
To mark the occasion as part of today’s special issue, I’m championing some brilliant female Savers who always share their great tips with me.
Don’t forget to send me yours and you might find I credit 28 codes to your Sun Savers account — which means another fiver! From travel tricks to gardening hacks, these women know how to make a great saving . . .
PACK IT IN: Denise Pyett, from Leeds, says: “Buy a bag of small bottles from The Poundshop and fill them with shower gels and shampoo. It works out cheaper than buying small travel size toiletries.”
AN ICE TRICK: Jean Wilson, from Keighley, West Yorks, says: “Make sauces last longer by freezing them in ice cube trays. I squeeze tomato paste into the trays and then get a cube when needed.”
CLEAN UP: Julie Harley, from Lowestoft, Suffolk, says: “Instead of buying pricey carpet fresheners, sprinkle some washing powder on your carpet, leave for about ten minutes, then vacuum it all up.”
WATER GOOD IDEA: Karen McGuire, from Grimsby, says: “Don’t splash out on a new watering can. Cut a few holes in the lid of an empty plastic milk carton and use as a watering can for your plants.”
SAVINGS A-PEEL: Anita Walder, from Pulborough, West Sussex, says: “Save the peel of your potatoes for a tasty treat. Just drizzle some oil and sea salt over them, and then bake in the oven until they turn crispy. It’s a great snack whilst you’re waiting for your potatoes to cook. That’s the cost of a packet of crisps saved!”
WHAT A BEAUTY: Pam Simpson from Alfreton, Derbys, says: “Everyone loves smooth skin, but you don’t have to buy exfoliator. Try using baby oil, or even olive oil mixed with some sugar for a rich and affordable alternative. Your skin will thank you!”
A VEGGIE GOOD PLAN: Sheila Parker, from Dereham, Norfolk, says: “Save plastic containers that fruit and veg come in and reuse them to sow seeds for veggies. They already have drainage holes and you might end up harvesting your own crop to eat.”
