Fears for more than 100 jobs as telecoms giant to close Aberdeen office

BT is to close its main Aberdeen base, putting more than 100 workers at risk.

The telecoms giant announced it intends to close New Telecom House and was in consultation with a “small number” of employees at risk of redundancy in Aberdeen.

BT Group said it would try to find affected workers jobs in its Dundee base and elsewhere.

The firm is streamlining its estate from 300 properties UK wide to 30. It last month committed to maintaining a major office in Dundee and said it could move to new premises there.

BT said: “We’ve started to consult with a small number of office-based colleagues and their union representatives on the proposed closure of New Telecom House.

“No decision has been made but, if the closure goes ahead as we propose, we’ll look at all options including helping colleagues find roles within BT Group sites, such as Dundee.”
