Fearne Cotton was having daily panic attacks so bad she was 'scared to use motorways'


Things got so bad that the Radio 2 DJ was suffering panic attacks every day and is now too scared to drive on motorways.

During these “incredibly dark times” the mum-of-two realised that she’s “not really made for” being in the public eye.

“I haven’t got a thick skin. I take everything personally,” she said. “And I beat myself up – I self-flagellated for years.”

The TV presenter and author’s first presenting gig was on MTV when she was 15.

She went on to have a flagship Radio 1 show, front Top of the Pops and Children in Need and became a team captain on tcomedy quiz Celebrity Juice.

But Fearne, 37, said her mental health deteriorated and started to affect her work.

She said: “I could be live on the radio or live on the TV and then that sick bit of your brain goes and I would feel it physically coming on.”

Fearne and husband Jesse – – now prefer to stay at home rather than going out clubbing. She said: “I don’t want to go to a party and talk to people.

“Jesse’s been sober now for six years and he’s worked incredibly hard to create a whole new path in life because of that decision.”
