Faye – who is engaged to singer Gareth Gates – is the fifth Corrie actor to hand her notice in within three months.

In an interview with OK! Magazine on April 1, Faye said: “I love my job and feel like I’ve only just begun to sink my teeth into Kate.”

It came as a surprise to soap fans who were left devastated by her decision.

Faye said: “Thanks to everyone for your amazing support, but after 4 fabulous years in Weatherfield it’s time for me to explore new opportunities.

“I’ve loved playing Kate Connor, but she needs a break for a little while and so with a song in my heart I’m off to pastures new. #corrie.”

She had posted nine inspirational messages to fans on social media before revealing her surprise news.

One said: “You are worth, you are capable, you are beautiful.

“Book the ticket, write the book, create the dream, celebrate yourself. Rule your queendom.”

Another message read: “You’ll never change your life until you change something you do daily.

“The secret of your success is found in your daily routine.”

A third said: “Surround yourself with the dreamers and the doers, the believers and the thinkers.”

Despite her character Kate’s on-screen fiance Rana Habeeb being killed off, the door will left open for Faye to return.

An ITV spokesman told The Sun Online: “Faye is a very talented actress who has put her all into the portrayal of Kate Connor for the past three-and-a-half years, we wish her every success for the future.

“She will be on screen until early Autumn and the door will be left open.”
