Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw gets an explosive new trailer

It’s time to get your popcorn and tequila ready, according to Dwayne Johnson, for Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw is nearly upon us (we’re not usually ones for doing shots in the cinema but, hey, if The Rock is sanctioning it, who are we to argue?).

Johnson has unveiled the latest trailer for the upcoming Fast & Furious spin-off – a summer blockbuster that looks unashamedly ridiculous and preposterously OTT, stuffed with lines such as “When it’s the fate of the world, it becomes my business…” In other words, it looks like a helluva lot of fun.

Just like the first trailer, this teaser really plays up the film’s buddy comedy aspect, with Johnson’s Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw trading as many wisecracks as they dish out ass-whuppins.

You can watch the new trailer below…

The trailer shows us more of Vanessa Kirby’s Hattie Shaw – a skilled MI6 agent who also happens to be Deckard’s sister – and Idris Elba’s Brixton Lore: a genetically enhanced terrorist who refers to himself as “black Superman” and is out to reclaim a stolen virus that could wipe out half the population.

The film looks just as – if not more – bombastic as the last few movies in the Fast & Furious series (case in point? The Rock versus a helicopter…). But there’s also a big nod to the franchise’s now well-trodden family focus – seen not only in the dynamic between Statham, Kirby and onscreen mum Helen Mirren, but also in scenes set in Hobbs’ home state of Hawaii (a place close to Johnson’s heart), in which the hulking lawman and his bros go “old-school” on Lore’s mercenaries.

Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw opens in UK cinemas on 2 August 2019.
